Central Texas APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System)
APRS is a system in which computers, GPS (global positioning systems), and packet (digital) radio are combined to provide real-time tracking of people and equipment. In Central Texas, we typically have 5 to 10 amateur radio operators transmitting their call sign and latititude and longitude. For more information on APRS check out http://www.tapr.org
We have created a large map called ARESALL.MAP that covers not only Travis and Williamson counties, but all of the surrounding contiguous counties as well (and then some more). Please be prepared for lengthy download times (this file when zipped exceeds 4 megabytes). Unzipped, the ARESALL.MAP is about 16 mb in size. http://www.kk5vk.com/aprs/aresall.zip
Here's a Windows/Mac
APRS map that covers all of Travis County. Roads only. http://www.kk5vk.com/aprs/travis.zip
